Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I have to attend every single weigh in? What if I am away on holidays?
Answer:
No. You do not. The only mandatory weigh in's are the first one, and the last one on Nov 18th (or Nov 15th). However, keep in mind you will be missing out on some valuable information during presentations, prizes for "Biggest Loser of the Month", prizes for monthly challenges, and the support network if you do miss weigh in's.
What if I am unable to make it to the first weigh in on May 15, but I still want to join?
Answer:
You can pre-register by filling out the forms and dropping of your registration along with payment ahead of time and just weigh in on the next weigh in date of June 3rd. No registrations will be accepted after June 3rd. (Please make sure to remember that any registrations received between May 16-June 3rd will be subject to the late registration fee outlined on the registration page. If you submit your registration forms and payment on or before May 15, you will not have to pay the late registration fee regardless of your actual weigh in date of either May 15 or June 3rd.)
How long will the weigh in's take? What if I am in a hurry?
Answer:
Weigh in's are aimed to be quick. In and out. However, there will usually be information and mingling afterwards, and monthly challenges are scheduled after some of the weigh in's. (Check the monthly challenges schedule)
Can I bring my kids with me to the weigh in's?
Answer:
Yes, of course! We all understand the busy life with kids! Please be respectful if there are other events in other parts of the Community Center. You may want to bring something to keep you kids busy or entertained though as there really is nothing for kids to do.
Who will be doing the weigh in's and measurements?
Answer:
We have a volunteer who will be responsible for weighing everyone in and also collecting measurements. This person will not be a participant in the challenge, it will be a neutral person. We will strive very hard to have the exact same person do all the weigh in's and measurements to keep everything consistent. This will be done while hidden, not in the view of the rest of the participants. Your weights and measurements will remain confidential, only your percentages and inches lost will ever be announced.
Will my weights ever be public?
Answer:
Absolutely Not! No one will know, except for you, the person running the database (that's me!) and the person weighing you in. If you want to let people know, you can tell them yourself! The only information that may be shared with the public/other contestants is just the PERCENTAGE of weight that was lost, or the amount of INCHES lost.
So I pay the registration fee, just once? And that is it? There are no more fees?
Answer:
That's correct! Just the one time registration fee which goes towards the cash prizes (and a few minimal expenses of running the challenge) and that is it! The whole challenge is at your finger tips for 6 months, you will be eligible for the prizes, challenges, contests, etc..etc..
What if other people join that have more weight to lose than I do?
Answer:
The challenge does not look at how many pounds are lost, so it does not matter if someone else joins that has more/less weight to lose than you. It looks at the percentage of weight lost, so it is much more comparable. So more weight to lose is not necessarily more percentage of weight to lose. For example: If someone joins and is 170 lbs, and wants to lose 20% within 6 months they will need to lose 34 pounds. However, if someone joins and is 270lbs, and wants to lose 20% within 6 months they will need to lose 54 lbs. Either way, everyone has their own personal unique goals, their own amount of percent they want to lose - making every participant unique. We are all working towards the same goals, we are all here to support each other!
Is this Challenge only for Women? The prizes seem to be geared towards females.
Answer:
No. This challenge is open to any and all Devon & Area residents. That includes Men!
The challenge started out as simply a couple of "Mom's Motivating Mom's" and therefor that is why you see a lot of the prizes geared towards female prizes.Since the inception of the challenge, there has been an overwhelming interest by both Men & Women! This is why we have opened the challenge to any and all residents. However, if a male wins the prizes, we are sure that he will be able to share his prizes with his wife/sister/mother and keep the cash amounts. :)
