How it all started...

Its a brand new year, and we all make resolutions. Every year I make almost the exact same resolutions. Eat better, exercise more, become a healthier person and grow. I always am able to "grow" as a person. Always learning new things and becoming a better person on the inside by changing little things, and sometimes big things. But I have always struggled with my other reoccurring resolutions. I usually have great motivation to eat better, exercise more, and become healthier at the very beginning of the year. After a couple months it seems to fizzle out. Either I am not seeing the results I would like, or I am going through a stressful time, or simply my "motivation-tank" is running on fumes. Regardless of the excuse, I have yet to follow through on a New Year's resolution all the way until the end of the year, all the way to completion. I am not the kind of person to typically quit anything. I am ambitious, creative, and always on the go. I seem to always have projects, always volunteering for one thing or another, and always enjoy the start of something new as much as I love completing a project or sport season or volunteer shift. So needless to say, it frustrates me to no end that the one thing I cannot seem to mark complete on my invisible list of never-ending "to-do's" are my New Years Resolutions of eating better, exercising more and becoming healthier. Hence, begins the start of the "Biggest Loser" journey.
The Actual Start

I was speaking to a friend about a recent discovery of a mini "motivation-reserve-tank" that I have found..... (Meaning that I have recently mustered up some inspiration and motivation, even when I thought I had none left.) What started out as a simple idea, something so small, quickly began to grow and evolve.
We chatted about supporting each other and motivating each other while trying to work towards our resolutions, which are similar. The conversation lead into a question: "well, how competitive are you?". That simple question was sort of the discovery of my mini reserve tank, it was like a little light bulb went off, then another, then another...all in sequence. Competitive? = Inspired... = Motivated... = Idea: Long Term Competition.... = Long Term Motivation!
We finished our coffee, and continued on our day. Over the course of the day I continued to think about my renewed inspiration and eagerness to finally be able to put a check mark on those hopefully completed resolutions in the near future. Thinking about the methods that I have used in the past and methods that I would like to try brand new to aim for the results that I have secretly set as my goals.
We're all busy. Whether we have children or not, we have busy lives. There's always that load of laundry (or 4!) that nags at you in the back of your mind when you try to take a minute to yourself. There's always that errand you have to run, or the chore that can't be overlooked, or the phone call you get that lasts an hour, all of course after you put in a full 8 hour day running around at work (stay at home mom's put in a full 8 hour day too! If not MORE! And I don't care how many people out there think stay at home mom's "eat bon-bon's all day long watching Days of our Lives", I have been in your shoes and know for a fact that it is one of the most busy and hardest life/career choices out there!).
So all this thinking, about how similar my situation is compared with almost everyone else I know that has similar goals, brought me to think "We should all do it together! We should all support each other!"
I mentioned to one of my friends, in a casual brief conversation sort of in passing "Hey, I bet you I can motivate you.... I bet you $20 I can lose more % of weight than you by Summer/Christmas. But you have to motivate me, by betting the vice-versa...." She was all for it! We both have extremely competitive personalities, so I wasn't very surprised we had the brief conversation about a mini competition. However, what I was surprised about was what happened over the next 48 hours.

The next 48 hours....

48 hours! That's it. That's all it took for something as simple as a little idea, to grow and evolve into something that literally took on a life form of it's own.
I mentioned to one of my other girlfriends that I had made this bet with my other friend, and she immediately said "Hey! How do I get in on the bet?" So, we then turned into a group of three! Now my friend spoke to her sister, how also immediately wanted to get in on the mini competition, so three turned into four. Before I knew it, we had 8 people in our little mini competition! One of those people, decided to bet a different wager instead of the quickly tossed around $20 .... They added a prize from their own personal company. Raised the stakes just a little higher, motivating us just that little bit more.
I was sitting at home that night, contemplating my strategy how I plan on working my butt off to reach the most % of weight lost amongst this mini circle of friends. And it occurred to me... if there are 8 people interested in this challenge just within our circle of friends within 48 hours, how many more people out there would have the same interest!? If there's plenty of people out there with the same goals, chances are that we have the same competitive interest, and need for motivation! So, my thought was, lets open this up to everyone interested!! The more people competing, the larger the group support network we all have! Then more inspiration and motivation will come of having more people! With every one person, the odds are tougher and tougher, making you work harder and harder... becoming more motivated and inspired overall! Also, seeing other people succeed and reach goals along the way is incredibly inspiring in itself!
The quotes "Moms motivating Moms" and "Women motivating Women" is because as a group we can fuel each other better than trying to over come hurdles alone. When someone is on a journey, such as a weight loss journey or a "get-fit" journey, there are many ups and downs. And its a lot easier to get over the bumps in the road if you know you are not alone in the journey!
This is how it all began!
